Montreal, March 17, 2020 – Following the Quebec Premier’s official announcement banning public gatherings of more than 250 people and, more recently, the announcement of the closing of Canadian borders in order to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) is obliged to postpone its 19th edition, scheduled for May 4 to 13, 2020.

This was an exceptionally difficult decision that was not made lightly. The current situation is evolving rapidly and we believe there will be significant impacts on logistics and international travel. Our jury members and competitors would have been travelling from close to 20 countries,” said Christiane LeBlanc, Executive and Artistic Director of the CMIM.

Out of respect for the competitors who have put hundreds or even thousands of hours of preparation into the Piano 2020 edition, management has decided to postpone the event until May 24 to June 3, 2021, and to postpone the Voice 2021 edition until spring 2022. The 24 candidates who were to participate in Piano 2020 will therefore be automatically admitted to the new 2021 edition.

Customers who purchased passports to Piano 2020 (Full or Final) via the CMIM website should contact our Communications department for a deferral or refund. Customers who purchased tickets or passports via Place des Arts should follow the instructions issued by the latter in a press release dated March 12, 2020: “In the case of postponed shows, those who have purchased tickets are asked to keep them.” For further information, please contact Place des Arts’ customer service at 514-842-2112 / 1-866-842-2112.

We warmly thank all the donors, sponsors, partners, volunteers and host families of the Piano 2020 edition for their understanding. We hope that they, and all Montrealers, will be there to applaud our outstanding pianists from May 24 to June 3, 2021.
