Montreal, Wednesday, May 15, 2013 – The Montreal International Musical Competition announces the names of the first 3 prize winners of the 2013 violin edition. The names of the winners of the special awards will be revealed on Friday, May 17, during the official awards ceremony preceding the gala concert:

1st PRIZE – $30,000 2nd PRIZE – $15,000 3rd PRIZE – $10,000

Added to the First Prize is a “Sartory” model bow, offered by the Atelier Sandrine RAFFIN – Archetiers, valued at $3 700 CAD.

The three laureates will appear in a gala concert this Friday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Maison symphonique de Montréal. Under the direction of Maxim Vengerov, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal will accompany the winners.

The MIMC plays a key role in the finest tradition of classical concert music. The Competition seeks to discover and support young singers, violinists, and pianists who have distinguished themselves as masters of their art. Since the very first edition, dedicated to voice in 2002, nearly 2,000 candidates have applied to take part in the various editions, and, of these, more than 300 were given the opportunity to perform in Montreal, to the great delight of music lovers. The MIMC is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, and of the Alink-Argerich Foundation.
