Montreal, Monday, January 28, 2013 – The Montreal International Musical Competition (MIMC) is pleased to offer its warmest congratulations to the bass-baritone Philippe Sly, who has won Concert of the year – romantic, post-romantic and impressionist music last night at the 16th edition of the Gala des prix Opus. This award recognizes the outstanding quality of a recital; this recital accompanied by the pianist Michael McMahon, was performed at the Société d’art vocal de Montréal, on May 21, 2012.

It is to be noted that the young singer received multiple honours at the Montreal International Musical Competition awards ceremony on June 8, winning not only the first prize, but also the Jean A. Chalmers Award for the best Canadian artist, the Joseph Rouleau Award for the best artist from Québec, the award for the best performance of the compulsory Canadian work as well as Radio-Canada’s People’s Choice Award. Prior to this event, Philippe was nominated as Radio-Canada’s Classical Music Revelation 2012-2013.

Since these accolades, the young singer, to whom success is frequent, has given many concerts and released his first album “In Dreams / En rêves / In Träume” under the Analekta label with his accomplice, pianist Michael McMahon. In concerts, recitals and recordings, the critics have been unanimous and the MIMC is proud to have contributed in the recognition of the great talent of this artist at the beginning of an exceptional career.
