A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE AND ARTISTIC DIRECTORS, CHANTAL POULIN AND SHIRA GILBERT
Dear Friends of the CMIM,
We are thrilled to be celebrating the Voice at this year’s edition of the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM). From May 25 to June 6, 2025, Montrealers, along with music lovers from around the world, will be enchanted by the exceptional artistry of 24 of the most brilliant young singers of the new generation.
Voice reigns supreme in Montreal
The Voice edition of the CMIM holds a special place in the hearts of Montreal audiences – a vibrant celebration of true musical passion. In Montreal, the birthplace of many great classical singers, and in Canada, where there is excellent vocal training, it is not surprising that the very first edition of the CMIM, in 2002, was dedicated to the art of classical voice.
This discipline was also the favourite of our two founders: internationally renowned bass Joseph Rouleau, and politician, music lover and philanthropist André Bourbeau. Today, the CMIM stands out as the only international voice competition of its kind in North America, and one of the most highly regarded in the world.
International notoriety anchored in our city
Since we assumed the role of co-directors of the Concours last fall, our priority has been not only to maintain and develop the prestige and excellence of this renowned competition but also to strengthen our ties with the Montreal public and deepen our relationship with the local community.
A number of innovative initiatives were put in place for Piano 2024. These included the creation of a Junior Jury comprised of Montreal music students, and the “CMIM On the Road,” which offered competitors who do not advance to the Semifinal the chance to present their programs in various venues outside Montreal. We are gratified with the enthusiastic response from our partners and the public to these complementary events, which enrich the CMIM experience and encourage us to continue along this path.
Proud Ambassadors
On June 6th, we will announce the laureates and winners of the special prizes for the Voice 2025 edition. These artists will join the elite circle of the CMIM and will in turn become ambassadors for our city on the world’s greatest stages. You will hear them in New York, London, Paris, and Montreal. We are always delighted and proud to see so many of these young musicians excel and realise their dreams.
A musical and emotional adventure on this scale would not be possible without the invaluable support of our partners. Thanks to them, the competition can maintain its standards of excellence, and award generous prizes and grants to young artists to reward and encourage their achievements. We would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude for their commitment.
