Montreal is in tune with the piano for 2027!
The world’s best young pianists will gather in Montreal from April 24 to May 5, 2027 for an exciting competition.
The 2027 International Jury will be chaired by renowned Canadian pianist Angela Cheng:
“I am honoured and delighted to take on the role of Jury President for the piano edition of the Concours musical international de Montréal starting in 2027. Montreal is where my career began, and the city will always hold a special place in my heart. The Concours, with its rigorous standards, is one of the most important launching pads for exceptional young artists on the international stage. I look forward to returning to the city in 2027 to discover the new generation of great pianists, alongside my distinguished colleagues.”
Prizes and grants with a value of more than $150,000 will be awarded during the 25th edition of the Concours musical international de Montréal.

Angela Cheng
President of the Jury – Piano 2027
Canadian pianist Angela Cheng is praised for her brilliant technique, tonal beauty, and superb musicianship. In addition to regular appearances with every major orchestra in Canada, she has performed with symphony orchestras across the United States, as well as in London, Israel, and Brazil.
Angela Cheng has performed in numerous prestigious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Mariinsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, and the Sydney Opera House. Festival appearances include Verbier, Edinburgh, Miyazaki, and the George Enescu Festival in Romania. She regularly appears in recital throughout North America, including festival performances at Banff, Chautauqua, Colorado, Great Lakes Chamber Music, Vancouver, Toronto, and Festival International de Lanaudière.
An active chamber musician, Angela Cheng was a member of the Zukerman Trio and Chamber Players for nearly a decade, as well as performing as Pinchas Zukerman’s collaborative pianist on many national and international tours. She continues to perform with her husband, pianist Alvin Chow, and with numerous ensembles and chamber societies, including the Takács, Colorado, and Vogler quartets.
Angela Cheng has taught masterclasses at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music, Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts, Taiwan’s Taichung University, Indiana University, Music Institute of Chicago, to name only a few. She has served on the jury of many competitions, including the Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition, Dallas International Piano Competition, Honens International Piano Competition, and the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, among others.
In 1988 Angela Cheng was the first Canadian to win the Montreal International Music Competition, a former competition which existed in Montréal from 1965 to 1991. Other awards include third prize at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition, and the Medal of Excellence for outstanding interpretations of Mozart from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
A native of Hong Kong, Angela Cheng studied with Menahem Pressler at Indiana University as well as Sascha Gorodnitzki at the Juilliard School. She is currently on the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she was honoured with an Excellence in Teaching Award.
