Voice 2022 – Aria Division
Soprano
2022: Born in Hunan, China, soprano Xueli Zhou brings to this year’s Concours a wide variety of arias, from famous Verdi to virtuosic Strauss. She spent several seasons with the Shanghai Opera House Chorus, performing operatic staples like Carmen, La traviata, and Falstaff. In Shanghai, Zhou also sang Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 under acclaimed conductor Franz Welser-Möst.
Xueli Zhou won first prize in both the Hunan University Student Music Competition and the Hunan Youth Art Festival Vocal Competition. She graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2016, and is now based in Germany, studying at the Berlin University of the Arts.
