VIOLIN 2019 EDITION
Biography 2019: A Chinese-born Canadian, Melody Ye Yuan started playing the violin at the age of five in her homeland. When she was nine, she moved to Vancouver to study with Taras Gabora. She then studied at the University of British Columbia under the tutelage David Gillham, and currently attends the New England Conservatory with the renowned Donald Weilerstein. Optimistic by nature, a quality she deems primordial, she also believes in the importance of autonomy. When asked who she would choose as a companion for a long trip, she replied that she would gladly go with…herself. “No one can help you all your life”, says the violinist. At twelve, Melody was already making her debut with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She has also made her mark at several competitions, notably by winning a First Prize at the International Yuri Yankelevich Competition in Russia at the age of 11, and a 3rd prize at the Canadian Music Competition. Always seeking to develop new skills, her pastimes include improving her piano skills, learning to skate, and learning to speak French.
Melody Ye Yuan is generously sponsored by Marie-Paule and Jean-Jacques Laurans.
