“I actually spent two years in law school after watching the movie Legally Blonde, but quickly realized that I couldn’t survive without music and the violin. Performing on stage is what gives me my true sense of purpose, and I want to share that passion with audiences around the world.”
Recognized for her finely nuanced interpretations and stylistic versatility, Belle Ting studied violin and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, as well as at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold and Mainz.
The Canadian violinist from Vancouver came to public attention after winning the Grand Prix at the International Arthur Grumiaux Competition in Belgium at the age of 13, subsequently garnering top prizes at the Cooper International Violin Competition, International Brahms Competition, International Isaac Stern Competition, International Khachaturian Competition, and the CARSA Rising Star Award.
She has since performed at venues including the Musikverein Wien and the Wiener Konzerthaus, as well as at events including the Festival Ravel, the Cziffra Foundation, and the Verbier Festival. Belle has collaborated with orchestras such as the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and the Moscow State Philharmonic. Upcoming debuts incude an appearance at La Folle Journée de Nantes.
Belle’s debut album, Impressions, focuses on the works of French composers such as Debussy and Ravel. Her performances have been broadcast on ORF, IDAGIO, Classic FM, and medici.tv. She is principal second violin at the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and has been influenced by artists including Ivry Gitlis, Rainer Honeck, and Sarah Nemtanu. “I am deeply inspired by musicians who combine emotional honesty with a deep understanding of the music. Artists who communicate something deeply personal on stage motivate me to continually search for my own voice, and I am grateful to be inspired by all the artists I have had the chance to work with and learn from!”
Belle plays an instrument that is very dear to her. “My violin is a gift from my father, who bought it from a friend’s uncle. It is attributed to Antonio Pollusca of Rome, and dates from the 18th century.”
