A young violinist gives us her daily thoughts.
About the first evening of the finals, on May 14:
“The finals are always very interesting. The candidates play with orchestra their concerto. We, the public, were asked to vote our choice. I won’t tell you mine but I can tell you my experience as a listener.
As you know, when I listen to a performance the main thing I look for is the musicality. To me, that’s what makes the beauty of the music. Some people think that moving a lot, throwing the hair in the air, jumping up and down is ”musicality”. But no!!! In order to hear really what comes out of their playing, I close my eyes to not get influenced by their body language. I want to hear what comes out of their heart. It is not a visual thing! Last year I played a concert and there was a blind woman in the public. She came to see me afterwards and her comments were different from other people. She said to me that she ”saw” and ”felt” the joy in my playing. Joy is a sincerity that comes directly from the heart. And tonight, I fully understood what she meant when I closed my eyes. I heard many emotions that I could not have perceived as well with my eyes opened.
Wow! Tonight will be the decisive night. I will make my own winners in my heart. But I am excited to see who the judges will choose.”
