TWELVE CANIDATES ADVANCE TO THE SEMI-FINALS AND THE WINNER OF THE 5,000 COMPULSORY CANADIAN WORK AWARD ANNOUNCED<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two Canadian competitors amongst the twelve candidates
moving on to the Semi-final round<\/p>\n

Montreal, May 28, 2014\u00a0 \u2014 <\/strong>The Montreal International Musical Competition (MIMC) started on a high note on Monday, May 26, as 24 young pianists from 15 countries took the stage at Bourgie hall. Between May 26 and May 28, each candidate played a 45-minute recital \u2013 12 have been selected for the Semi-finals. Here is the list of semi-finalists who will play at Bourgie Hall as well as a detailed schedule:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The jury also chose the laureate for the Best Performance of the Compulsory Canadian Work ($5,000). Composed by Marjan Mozetich, Tremors: Homage to Ligeti was played superbly by Jayson Gillham<\/a> (Australia\/United Kingdom). Mr. Mozetich along with Mr. Andr\u00e9 Bourbeau, president of the jury, were on stage to award the Prize.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the six finalists will be made following the last semi-final session on Saturday, May 31. The announcement of the laureates will be made following the last final session on Wednesday, June 4.<\/p>\n

The Montreal International Musical Competition seeks to discover and support young singers, violinists, and pianists who have distinguished themselves as masters of their art. Since its first edition dedicated to voice in 2002, 2,300 candidates have applied to take part in the competition, with 350 given the opportunity to perform in Montreal, to the great delight of music lovers. Presented by Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, the MIMC is proud to count on the support of such major arts partners as Radio-Canada and the Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
