Lorenz Karls was born in Vienna into an Austrian-Swedish family. He began playing the violin at the age of four and is currently a student at the Universit\u00e4t Mozarteum Salzburg.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of his highlights as a soloist include his appearance at the Mozartwoche Salzburg in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation, followed by concerts with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, WDR Funkhausorchester, Camerata Bern, Odense Symfonieorkester, Kremerata Baltica, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lorenz has won\u00a0numerous\u00a0prizes at national and international competitions, among them seven top prizes from member competitions of\u00a0the\u00a0World Federation of Music Competitions.\u00a0These include\u00a0Mozart Competitions in\u00a0Salzburg,\u00a0Austria and Zhuhai, China,\u00a0as well as\u00a0the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition\u00a0in Belgium.\u00a0He\u00a0won second prizes from the Karol Lipinski International Violin Competition\u00a0and the Classic Violin Olympus International Competition;\u00a0as well as third prizes from\u00a0the\u00a0Michael Hill International Violin Competition, Seoul International Music Competition,\u00a0and Khachaturian International Violin Competition, among others.\u00a0Lorenz\u00a0has been reinvited by\u00a0the Concours musical international de Montr\u00e9al, after reaching the Semifinal round\u00a0in 2023.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lorenz plays a very special violin manufactured in 2025, whose wood from New Zealand is thought to be 30,000 years old: \u201cThis wood was buried deep underground since the end of the last Ice Age. The trees have survived the centuries underground, sealed in a chemically-balanced environment that preserved the timber in almost perfect condition. A violin like this is an absolute rarity, and there are only few such instruments existing in the world.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
