Canadian <\/span>pianist<\/span> Carter <\/span>Johnson\u2019s<\/span> most<\/span> recent<\/span> competition<\/span> prizes<\/span> include<\/span> <\/span>1st <\/span>prize<\/span> at the <\/span><\/span>Hauts-de-France International Piano <\/span>Competition<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> 1st <\/span>prize<\/span> at the 2021 International <\/span>Competition<\/span> of Polish Music, 1st <\/span>prize<\/span> of the 2020 <\/span>Valsesia<\/span> International <\/span>Competition<\/span> <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Equally at home in the worlds of solo, concerto, chamber, and art song, Johnson has a particular interest in bringing light to lesser-explored parts of the repertory, most recently championing a collection of works by relatively unknown Polish composers. In addition to the music of J.S. Bach (where he feels most at home), he champions music by Schumann, Grieg, Faur\u00e9, Ives, Hindemith, Poulenc, Shostakovich, and Messiaen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Johnson holds a BMus from the University of British Columbia, an MM from the Juilliard School, and an MMA from the Yale School of Music, where he is currently a DMA candidate studying with Wei-Yi Yang. Johnson currently resides in Connecticut with his wife Hannah and their young boys, Preston and Ambrose.<\/span><\/p>\n
