He began his studies with his father and mentor Mikhail Trushechkin. Alexey was accepted at the Moscow Chopin College, to study with Elena Kaminskaya, and later graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory under the tutelage of Maxim Filippov. He moved to Columbus, Georgia, to attend the Schwob School of Music and study with Alexander Kobrin and Eric Zuber.
