Violinist Patrice Fontanarosa’s talent was evident from a very early age when he began collecting an impressive number of international prizes: Villa-Lobos (Rio de Janeiro), George Enescu (Bucharest), Kreisler (Liège), Long-Thibaud (Paris), Ginette Neveu (Paris), and Paganini (Genoa), to name only a few. Alongside his career as a concert performer, he was also successively the concertmaster of the Virtuosi di Roma and of the Orchestre National de France, performing under some of the greatest conductors of our time, including Abbado, Boehm, Maazel, Muti, Ozawa, and Solti. He has been invited to perform with major French orchestras and at big international festivals, and has also appeared in Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Thailand. In 1995, he received the “Victoire de la Musique” awarded to the best instrumental soloist for the recording Violon de l’Opera (EMI). That same year, he performed the world première of Marcel Landowski’s concerto for violin and orchestra, dedicated to him; the work went on to win a “Victoire de la Musique” for best recording of a contemporary work in 1997. Patrice Fontanarosa has an extensive discography, mainly on the EMI label. He was a professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, and currently gives advanced training at the Scola Cantorum, also in Paris.
