Michel Dalberto entered the Conservatoire de Paris in 1968, at the age of 12, to study under Vlado Perlemuter, a favourite disciple of Alfred Cortot. By the time he had graduated nine years later, he was already a laureate of the 1st International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and a recipient of the Clara Haskil Prize. After winning the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition the following year, his international career soared and he was invited to play in major cities across Europe under some of the most distinguished conductors.
Michel Dalberto is considered one of the leading performers of Schubert and Mozart. Liszt, Debussy, Fauré, Schumann and Ravel are also among his favourite composers. A prolific recording artist, he is the only pianist alive today to have recorded the complete piano works of Schubert (14 records for Denon). His recordings have earned him many distinctions, including the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros, the Prix de l’Académie du Disque Français and a Diapason d’Or.
