Violinist Michael Frischenschlager began his career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing concerts in Europe, Asia, and North America. A professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna since 1971, he served as its Vice-Chancellor and then Chancellor from 1989 to 1996.
As a renowned teacher, he has given numerous seminars and master classes all over the world. He also regularly serves as a jury member for many prestigious international violin and chamber music competitions.
Former head of the European String Teachers Association in Austria, Michael Frischenschlager has been the President of the Fritz Kreisler International Violin Competition in Vienna since 1989. In 1990, he founded the International Summer Academy Prague Vienna Budapest and was its director for 14 years.
