Recognized as one of Canada’s most accomplished musicians, Marc Durand enjoys a distinguished reputation as a pedagogue who has notably trained such artists as Claude Webster, Paul Stewart, and Louis Lortie. A tenured professor and academic advisor at the Université de Montréal’s faculty of music, he is regularly invited to the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto as a visiting professor and program advisor, in addition to teaching at the Orford Arts Centre, the Banff Centre, the Texas Conservatory for Young Artists, and giving master classes in some of the finest music schools in Canada and the United States, as well as in Australia. Marc Durand has distinguished himself at several major competitions, including the Leschetizky Competition in New York where he was awarded the unanimous First prize in 1975. The following year, he made his Carnegie Hall debut. Since then, he has been a member of several prestigious juries, and has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe, North Africa, Asia, and Indonesia. His discography includes recordings with mezzo-soprano Marie Laferrière and violinist Vladimir Landsman and,together with baritone Bruno Laplante,several discs of French art songs,among them the complete vocal works of Satie and Duparc.
