Having grown up in a family of music-lovers, Jean-Philippe Collard left home at the age of 10, going from his native Champagne region to Paris, where the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and international competitions awaited him, along with eight years of strict and enlightening study with Pierre Sancan, at the end of which he was propelled onto the international scene. He was privileged to later receive instruction from Vladimir Horowitz, during the crucial years when artistic maturity takes shape. An unparalleled interpreter of the contrasting facets of French music (from Fauré to Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, and Ravel), Jean-Phlippe Collard is no less skilled at tackling other breathtaking works of the piano repertoire with equal intensity and panache. His discography currently includes over fifty titles, many of which have been critically acclaimed, including his recordings of Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux and Brahms’ Hungarian Dances, both of which were named “Recording of the Year” by Stereo Review magazine. Jean-Philippe Collard has appeared on the great music stages of Europe and America, from Carnegie Hall to Teatro Colón, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées to the Royal Albert Hall. He has performed with the greatest orchestras on the globe, led by the world’s most prestigious conductors.
