Celebrated by audiences and critics alike, pianist James Parker has performed with every major Canadian orchestra and has given recitals across Canada, the United States, Europe, Russia and Scandinavia. Whether in solo, chamber, and orchestral concerts, he reveals his technical prowess alongside subtle artistry. With two JUNO recording awards and many other distinctions for works on his vast discography, this consummate professional is also recognized as the pianist for Canada’s foremost music ensemble, the Gryphon Trio. His style has earned him praise as “one of the most searching musical intellects and 10 of the nimblest fingers in the business,” according to The Globe and Mail. Awards came early and often. In 1984, he won CBC’s 25th National Competition for Young Performers, and in 1988, he was laureate of the Gina Bachauer Competition. He has also been awarded the Canada Council for the Arts’ Virginia-Parker Award as the most promising Canadian young classical artist. James Parker received his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from The Juilliard School, under Adele Marcus. Dr. Parker continues the teaching tradition as the Rupert E. Edwards Chair in Piano Performance on the music faculty at the University of Toronto.
