Imre Rohmann has been performing as a soloist with renowned orchestras and ensembles in Hungary, Germany, Austria, and elsewhere around the world since 1974. He has also appeared with partners, including Eugen Jochum, Peter Eötvös, Iván and Ádám Fischer, Thomas Zehetmair, and András Schiff. In 1985, he formed a piano-duo with his wife Tünde Kurucz. He has taught piano at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, University of Alcalá in Spain, Toho Gakuen and Showa Universities in Tokyo, and, beginning in 1990, at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he cur rently resides. Since 2002, he has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Budapest Chamber Symphony. Edition Simonffy has published his piano transcriptions, and his recordings appear on the Hungaroton, Denon, BMC, and Preiser labels. Imre Rohmann was born in Budapest, where he studied piano and composition at the Béla Bartók Conservatory, furthering his musical education at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music with, among others, György Kurtág. He also studied conducting at the Vienna Music Academy and was active in competitions, winning prizes at the Hungarian Radio Piano Competition and the Liszt-Bartók International Piano Competition. He recently played and conducted his own version of an uncompleted piano concerto by Franz Liszt, called “De Profundis”, that will appear under Hongaroton records in May.
