Born in Germany, Daniel Blumenthal studied in Paris and in New York, where he earned a doctorate from The Juilliard School. He has won prizes in prestigious inter national competitions: Sydney and Leeds in 1981, Geneva and Ferruccio Busoni in 1982, and the Queen Eli sabeth in 1983.
In Europe, he has performed with the London Symphony, the Royal Liverpool, the English Chamber and the Flanders Philharmonic orchestras, the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, and the National Orchestra of Belgium. He has been pre sented by the Société Chopin de Paris, and has performed numerous recitals in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, and the Teatro della Pergola in Florence. He has performed in all of the major concert halls in London.
Mr. Blumenthal’s concerto performances in the United States have included appearances with the Atlanta, Dal las, North Carolina, Boise, Maryland, Flint, Houston and Utah Symphonies, and Carnegie Hall has presented him on three occasions. In 1993, he made his Latin American debut and in 1996, his Swedish debut. His career extends to Australia and Southeast Asia, where he has performed three lengthy tours. Mr. Blumenthal has collaborated with such renowned artists as violinists Janine Jansen, Peter Zazofsky and Pierre Amoyal, horn player Barry Tuckwell, bass-baritone José Van Dam, tenor John Aler, contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux, soprano Dinah Bryant, and the Danel, Orlando, Enesco, and Colorado string quartets. He has performed and re corded regularly as a member of Spectrum Concerts Berlin, both in the German capital and on tour to the United States. His abundant discography extends to over 80 CDs.
Mr. Blumenthal teaches at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels and is a regular president and member of the piano juries of the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris.
