Blanca Uribe enjoys a busy career as recitalist and soloist in Europe, South America, and the United States. As a chamber musician, she has appeared with the Chicago, Orion, and Brentano String Quartets, with Ani and Ida Kavafian, and with the Philadelphia Chamber Ensemble. Her honors include the General Francisco de Paula Santander Medal, for outstanding contribution to Colombian Culture; the Order of Saint Charles, which she received in 1986, from the President of Colombia; and an Honorary Doctorate from the Valle University in Colombia. She was also recipient of the First Dutchess County Artist Award, received in New York in 1986.
Particularly notable are her interpretations the 32 Sonatas of Beethoven and of the complete Iberia suite of Isaac Albéniz, which she has also recorded. Her many other criti cally acclaimed recordings include the Danzas Fantásticas by Joaquín Turina, Richard Wilson’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with the Pro-Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston conducted by Leon Botstein, Piano Duos with Harold Martina, Beethoven Sonatas Opp. 101, 106 “Ham merklavier”, 109, 110 and 111 and two CDs with works by Colombian composers.
Blanca Uribe graduated magna cum laude from the Uni versität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien and from the Juilliard School in New York, where she did her post graduate studies with Martin Canin and the late Rosina Lhévinne. She has served on the juries of a number of international competitions including the Ferruccio Busoni, Cleveland, Van Cliburn, Dublin, Hilton Head, Santander Paloma O’Shea, Honens, and Beethoven (Vienna). She has given numerous master classes in Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Canada, the U.S., South Korea and Spain. She is currently professor of piano at Universidad EAFIT in Medellin, Colombia.
