Canadian conductor and violist Jean-Philippe Tremblay has, at age 31, developed an impressive and varied international career. He has been the Music Director of the Orchestre de la Francophonie since its founding in 2001, and together they have performed over 200 concerts throughout Canada. The orchestra enjoys an exclusive recording contract with the Analekta label: it has released, among others, two albums to international critical acclaim Bruckner Symphonies Nos. 4 and 7.
Over the past few seasons, he has notably conducted the Budapest Radio Chamber Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orches tra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden Radio Orchestra, the Manhattan School of Music Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on tour with Pinchas Zukerman as a soloist. He also made his debut appearances with the Flemish Radio Orches tra and the Orchestre national de France with pianist Alain Lefèvre, in addition to appearing in concerts with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, and at the Ottawa and Orford Arts Festivals. In the 2009 – 2010 season, engage ments include his debut concert with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra in Venezuela where he has already been invited for seasons 2011, 2012 and 2013, and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra for the opening of the World’s Fair in Shanghai.
Jean-Philippe Tremblay studied viola, compo sition, and conducting at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec in Chicoutimi, the Faculty of Music at Université de Montréal, the Pierre Monteux School, the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has studied with such renowned artists as Robert Spano, Seiji Ozawa, André Previn, Jorma Panula, and Michael Jinbo.
