Yoichiro Chiba was born in Tokyo, and started playing piano at the age of 7. He spent his formative years studying with Katsumi Ueda. He pursued his love of piano at the Tokyo University of the Arts under Akira Eguchi starting in 2016. That same year, he won the second prize and audience prize at the 85^th The Music Competition of Japan. Yoichiro was awarded the highest grade in on-campus exams in both 2017 and 2018; he is the recipient of the Rohm Music Foundation scholarship.
