At the age of 5, Johanna Pichlmair was listening to a Beethoven violin concerto performed by David Oistrakh. That event was the defining moment of her life, one that made her want to become a violinist. A year later, she was taking her first lessons with Alexandra Rappitsch. At the age of 18, she was accepted at the Mozarteum University, in Salzburg, in the class of Igor Ozim. In 2018, she received the First Prize at the Ysaÿe International Music Competition in Belgium. Her solo career is in full bloom: she regularly performs as a guest with the Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Nurnberg Symphony Orchestra, the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra and the German Chamber Orchestra of the South-West of Pforzheim. ​“This is my last year participating in a competition. I can’t wait to give the best performance I can and to savour the moment.” An eternal optimist, she managed to finance and acquire a Camillo Camilli made in 1734, an instrument she fell in love with.
