Roy

Winner of the Joseph Rouleau Award at the 2003 Montréal International Musical Competition, Jean-Sébastien Roy began studying violin at a very early age with Father Roland Brunelle, later pursuing his musical training with Johanne Arel and Raymond Dessaints at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. He has won numerous first prizes and bursaries from a variety of competitions, among them the Canadian Music Competition, the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, the Festival de musique du Royaume in Chicoutimi and the Université de Montréal’s concerto competition. In 2004, he was a laureate of the OSM Standard Life Competition. Jean-Sébastien Roy obtained a Master’s degree in performance from the Université de Montréal in 2004 and is currently studying with Paul Kantor at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He was one of 18 candidates selected to take part in the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand in June 2005.
