“The great advantage of the violin is that there is an incredible repertoire of pieces to learn, ” says Fumika Mohri. “ And the disadvantage, is that there are just too many pieces to be able to learn in a lifetime.” Having started her first violin classes at the age of 3, Fumika already has an impressive repertoire, and has had the chance to play with a number of orchestras all over the world: the Tokya Symphonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Bruxels Philharmonic and Kremerata Baltica. Fumika Mohri also competed at some prestigious competitions, finishing sixth at the Reine Elisabeth of Belgium and placing second at the Premio Paganini International Violin Competition in 2015. Her favorite composer at the moment is Schubert: she has been listening to his sonatas over and over again since she heard them performed by Mitsuko Uchida. “I fell head over heels with his octet, which I’ve been working on.”
