Canadian and Omanian mezzo-soprano Deepa Johnny is set to bring her agile instrument to the Montréal stage.
Fresh off her Carnegie Hall debut with Renée Fleming’s SongStudio, Johnny is a recent winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont National Council Auditions’ Western Canada District.
Born in Muscat, Oman, Johnny is a recent graduate of the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she performed roles including Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and Handel’s Serse. She took on the title role of La tragédie de Carmen with Arden Opera in 2017.
Johnny has used her position as a rising young artist to partner with A Better World Canada, and help raise money for education reform.
