Montréal, Saturday, May 28, 2016 – The semifinals of the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) came to a close tonight as the international jury selected six violinists from five countries. Each finalist will perform one of the great concertos of the repertoire at the Maison symphonique on May 30 and 31, with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) conducted by Maestro Giancarlo Guerrero. Here is the detailed schedule:

Finals I – May 30, 7:30 p.m.

 

Ji Won Song (South Korea)

Fedor Rudin (Russia – France)

  1. Wieniawski: Concerto No. 1, in F-sharp minor, op. 14

Minami Yoshida (Japan)

Finals II – May 31, 7:30 p.m.

 

Ayana Tsuji (Japan)

  1. Sibelius: Concerto in D minor, op. 47

Bomsori Kim (South Korea)

  1. Shostakovitch: Concerto No. 1, op. 99

Petteri Iivonen (Finland)

  1. Sibelius: Concerto in D minor, op. 47

For the first time in the history of the CMIM, results will not be announced right after the finals. Rather, the top three prizewinners, as well as the winners of all the special awards, will be revealed at the awards ceremony preceding the gala concert on Thursday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m. “Both audiences, the one in the Hall and the one following the competition on our webcast, will find out along with the competitors who has won and who will be performing with the OSM right after the announcement of the results. It promises to be an evening full of emotion!” declares Christiane LeBlanc, CMIM Executive and Artistic Director.

Pre-concert talks take place prior to each evening of the Finals, at 6 p.m., in the Foyer Allegro at the Maison symphonique: The Makings of a Winner on May 30 with Marc Bouchkov, CMIM 2013 First prize, and Women Conductors: A Changing Landscape on May 31 with Dina Gilbert, assistant conductor of the OSM.

All three rounds of the CMIM, as well as the gala concert, are webcast live on concoursmontreal.ca/live and available on demand on its YouTube channel. The finals and gala concert will also be webcast live and available on demand for three months on medici.tv, global leader in classical music content.
