APPLICATION RESULTS 

Montreal, Wednesday, February 8, 2012 —  With about three months to go before the start of the 2012 Voice edition of the MIMC, 159 applications from 31 countries have been received, among which 62 men and 97 women. The highest number of participants is from Canada (48, including 17 from Quebec) and South Korea (41), followed by the United States (12), Russia (11) and China. Among others are Poland (5), Armenia (4), and Austria, Belorussia, France and Tunisia (2 each). During the next few weeks, three different juries (made up of Colette Boky, Lyne Fortin, Chantal Lambert, Grégoire Legendre, Michael McMahon, Nathalie Paulin, Joseph Rouleau, Richard Turp and Claude Webster) will work on selecting the 32 candidates to take part in the competition, based on blind listening of recordings and analysis of the candidate’s dossiers. The official list of candidates will be revealed at the Competition’s inaugural press conference in May.

PRIZES
The laureates will receive over $150,000 CAD in prizes, grants, and engagements, including a $30,000 First Prize, and an opportunity to participate in a Career development programme valued at $20,000. The age limit for candidates is 33 years old (on January 1, 2012). The MIMC offers free transportation and accommodations to selected candidates. The 2012 MIMC Voice edition will take place from May 28 to June 8.

INTERNATIONAL JURY
Presided over by MIMC president and co-founder Mr. André Bourbeau, the international jury will be will be made up of: Sir Thomas Allen (United Kingdom), Ms. Edith D. Bers (United States), Mr. Jean-Pierre Brossmann and Mr. Dominique Meyer (France), Mr. Joseph Rouleau, Mr. Kwamé Ryan, and Ms. Edith Wiens (Canada), Ms. Renata Scotto (Italy) and Mr. Dmitry Vdovin (Russia).

The MIMC plays a key role in the finest tradition of classical concert music. The Competition seeks to discover and support young singers, violinists, and pianists who have distinguished themselves as masters of their art. Since the very first edition, dedicated to voice, in 2002, near 2,000 candidates have applied to take part in the various editions, and, of these, more than 300 were given the opportunity to perform in Montreal, to the great delight of music lovers. The MIMC is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, and of the Alink-Argerich Foundation.
