It is with intense pride and joy that I watch our Montreal
International Musical Competition (MIMC) move confidently toward
its thirteenth edition, basking in the glow of the solid reputation
it has built among the international music community since its
very beginnings in 2002, a reputation clearly reflected in the
high stature of the judges and number of applications it
succeeds in drawing year after year!
One must admit that we treat our candidates well! In addition to
the value of nearly $130.000 in prizes and engagements awarded each
year, our official partnership with Espace musique, Radio-Canada’s all-music
radio network, espace.mu and cbcmusic.ca affords these talented young candidates unparalleled exposure by
broadcasting many of their performances on the radio and on the
internet.
The Competition also covers participants travel costs and
offers them free accommodation with host families. It invites
venue operators, orchestra directors and opera company
representatives to attend the Competition rounds in an effort to
secure attractive opportunities and career-building engagements
for its winners.
I would also like to highlight that the Competition is coupled with
two benefit events designed to ensure its stability and
long-term development: the Dinner-concert in Dunham and
the wine auction Vinum & Musica.
Looking ahead to the
Dinner-concert in Dunham’s 20th edition, we are
pleased to announce that sopranos Nathalie Choquette,
Marie-Josée Lord, Marie-Ève Munger, contralto Marie-Nicole
Lemieux and bass-baritone Philippe Sly, First Prize of the MIMC
2012, have signed on. The anticipation is already building!
Vinum & Muisca is a benefit auction of
rare and collection wines in large-format bottles (magnum,
Mathusalem, Jeroboam and tutti quanti), that was such a
resounding success over the past editions that an
eighth edition
will be held on October 15, 2013!
The Montreal International Musical Competition, which has earned
considerable renown, is headed toward its thirtheenth edition and is
clearly here to stay! In the footsteps of Jeunesses Musicales of
Canada, the MIMC will continue supporting the best and brightest
young musicians, fostering the quest for excellence and
spreading the beauty and magic of music all around the world.
